Jayne’s Story
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty. However, from the very first consultation with Dr. Elena Rehl, I knew I was in the hands of a truly remarkable and compassionate professional.
Due to family history with breast cancer, I have always remained diligent with my yearly examinations. Each year has presented its own challenges with additional screenings and fine needle aspirations or ultrasounds due to dense breast tissue. However, I have always had a clean bill of health.
As a store director for a luxury jewelry firm, I had considered canceling and rescheduling my appointment to the following year, as it fell during a very busy time. Yet, prior to calling to cancel, something told me to keep the appointment. I am grateful that I did, as I received a suspicious result and finally a diagnosis of DCIS, grade 2-3 meaning I had Stage 0 cancer with high possibility of rapid development. I caught it just in time!
By the time I was led to Dr. Rehl’s office, I had already made the mental decision to remove both breasts. My family wanted me to consider going back home to New Jersey for treatment and second opinions. I reassured them that if I wasn’t comfortable with what I was being told, I would do so. Under Dr. Rehl’s care, I felt empowered and confident in choosing the decision to have a bilateral mastectomy.
Dr. Rehl exudes warmth, empathy, and a genuine concern for her patients. From the moment we met, she made me feel supported. She took the time to explain every aspect of the bilateral mastectomy procedure, addressing all my concerns with patience and clarity. Her ability to communicate medical information in a compassionate manner eased my anxiety and instilled confidence in the treatment plan.
What sets Dr. Rehl apart is not just her exceptional surgical skills, but also her dedication to her patients' emotional well-being. She recognized the emotional toll breast cancer takes and provided me with unwavering support, both before and after the surgery. Dr. Rehl was always available to answer my questions and provide the reassurance I needed. Her compassion extended beyond the operating room, making me feel valued and cared for as a person, not just a patient. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Rehl. Her expertise and dedication have played a vital role in my journey towards healing and recovery.
Today, as a breast cancer survivor, my husband and I realize I dodged a major bullet and are taking the time to celebrate every moment going forward.
Each day I take time to meditate and pray. In each meditation and prayer, I give thanks and express my gratitude for the angel that is Dr. Elena Rehl and recommend her to anyone in need of a skilled and compassionate surgeon, knowing they will be in the best possible hands.
